Clunes Pool Landscaping with Recycled Brick and Timber

When it came to landscaping this pool area in Clunes, it was all about creating a timeless outdoor space that blended beauty, function, and respect for the materials. For this residential project, the client’s brief was simple: revamp the pool zone using recycled and natural materials, and let the design speak quietly for itself.

A Soft, Organic Foundation

At the heart of the transformation is a custom kidney-shaped pool, a nod to mid-century design, but softened further by the use of warm, earthy tones and gentle curves. The organic shape naturally lends itself to a relaxed outdoor lifestyle, while also offering a visual point of difference from more structured, geometric layouts.

Recycled Brick with a Story

Framing the pool is a handcrafted border of recycled brick, laid in a stretcher bond pattern that offers texture, warmth, and a tangible sense of history. These bricks, each with their own imperfections and character, create a surface that feels both grounded and enduring. It’s a deliberate contrast to the clean line of the pool’s edge, making the entire space feel settled and thoughtful.

Natural Materials, Refined Finish

To transition from house to pool zone, a timber deck bridges the space, offering an easy, barefoot-friendly surface that brings softness underfoot. Frameless glass balustrades provide safety without disrupting the view, allowing the layered materials and soft landscaping to shine.

A Landscape Designed to Endure

The planting palette is minimal and sculptural, with low-maintenance natives and structured forms chosen to complement the material tones and soften the hardscape. Over time, the space will only improve, aged brick mellowing in the sun, timber greying gently, and the garden settling into its surrounds.

This project is a strong example of environmentally friendly pool landscaping in Clunes, where considered materials, skilled craftsmanship, and design restraint come together to create something quietly beautiful.
