As we continue to lead the industry with our innovative approach, we are seeking a dedicated and passionate individual to join our team as a Horticulture Apprentice. This apprenticeship offers a unique opportunity to gain practical experience while studying for a Certificate III in Parks and Gardens at Wollongbar TAFE, NSW.

Day in the life of a Horticulture Apprentice

“My favourite part of the job would have to be learning, I feel like I’m always learning the trade more and more each day and it feels good to see the work you put in.”

Horticulture Apprentice Position Summary:

As a Horticulture Apprentice, you will be an integral part of our horticulture team, working alongside our team leaders to learn and master various aspects of horticulture and landscape maintenance. This comprehensive program will provide you with valuable on-the-job training, exposure to diverse projects, and a chance to apply the theoretical knowledge gained during your TAFE studies. By nurturing your passion for horticulture, this apprenticeship aims to shape you into a skilled and environmentally conscious horticulturist, playing a vital role in enriching the natural beauty of Byron Bay's landscapes.

 

Apprentice Key Responsibilities:

  • Practical Learning: Under the guidance of our seasoned horticulture team, you will actively participate in various tasks related to plant care, landscape maintenance, and gardening practices. This includes planting, pruning, mulching, fertilisation, and pest control, among others.

  • Environmental Stewardship: Embrace sustainable horticultural practices, water conservation techniques, and the use of organic methods to promote ecological balance and biodiversity in all maintenance projects.

  • Plant Identification and Selection: Learn to identify a wide range of plant species and their specific requirements, ensuring appropriate selection and placement in different landscape settings.

  • Pest and Disease Management: Gain expertise in identifying and managing common pests and diseases affecting plants, implementing integrated pest management strategies to maintain plant health.

  • Client Interaction: Develop strong communication skills and professionalism when interacting with clients, understanding their preferences and needs, and providing exceptional service.

  • Worksite Safety: Prioritise safety in all operations and adhere to company safety protocols and guidelines to maintain a secure work environment.

Apprentice Requirements:

  • Enrolment in Certificate III in Parks and Gardens: The candidate must be currently enrolled or have a commitment to study for a Certificate III in Parks and Gardens at Wollongbar TAFE, NSW. This apprenticeship will provide hands-on practical experience to complement formal education.

  • Passion for Horticulture: A genuine interest and passion for horticulture, gardening, and sustainable landscaping practices are essential, as we seek individuals who share our vision for creating harmonious and thriving outdoor spaces.

  • Physical Fitness: Horticulture and landscape maintenance can be physically demanding, requiring candidates to have the ability to perform various tasks that may involve lifting, bending, and standing for extended periods.

  • Environmental Awareness: Demonstrated awareness and appreciation for environmental sustainability and conservation practices.

  • Positive Attitude: We value team players who exhibit a positive attitude, eagerness to learn, and a strong work ethic.

  • Driver's Licence: A valid driver's licence is preferred, as some projects may require commuting to different locations.
